Coping With Infertility During Mother’s Day
Mother’s Day is a hard day for those who have experienced loss or are struggling with infertility. Whether you have been through a loss or have been working through several rounds of fertility treatment, you know the pain of seeing parents who are happily celebrating this day with their bundles of joy and wishing it could be you in their shoes.
Our advice: Give yourself a break! Here are 3 tips for getting through Mother’s Day.
- Give yourself permission to skip it! Whether it’s church, the grocery store or brunch with friends - it’s okay to skip it this week. These can all be places plastered with reminders of Mother’s Day and it’s perfectly reasonable to want to avoid this for your own mental well being. You know what day it is and you don’t need the constant reminder bringing you down.
- Treat yourself! Do something that makes you feel good! If that means watching all your favorite movies with ice cream and cookies - go for it! Or take a weekend away getting some fresh air and enjoying a change of scenery. Whatever it is that you love to do!
- Talk to someone! Infertility affects 1 in 8 couples so chances are, you are not alone! There are so many others in your shoes and talking to them may help to ease some of the pain you’re feeling. Sometimes you just need to talk to someone who understands what you’re going through and who knows how to support you through it.
